With a sustainable mindset at the heart of its operations, Avfuel renewed its commitment to green operations by maintaining its designation under NATA’s Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses for the second year in a row.

From the fuel supplier’s sustainability efforts, Avfuel again earned its status as a Green Aviation Business – Tier 1 at its Ann Arbor, Mich., headquarters.

Last spring, Avfuel was one of just 13 companies representing 24 locations to receive such a designation, cementing its role as an early adopter in sustainable standards and a leader in sustainable operations. Today, that number nears 100 locations as more aviation companies (21 to date) follow suit.

Avfuel remains the only fuel supplier to receive the designation.

“I’m proud of the work in sustainability we’ve accomplished, both in terms of the sustainable programs we offer our customers and in the efforts we make as a company to reduce our footprint” said Marci Ammerman, Avfuel’s vice president of marketing. “Sustainability is now at the core of our operations—it’s not just another selling point or a mere ideal. We are profoundly committed to bettering the health of our world by identifying and adopting green alternatives.”

As part of the 2023 tier 1 certification process, the Avfuel team again established its baseline carbon footprint, resubmitted its environmental policy, continued a phase out of single-use products in its kitchen/dining area, and confirmed its utilization of the following: a local recycling program; paperless processes; LED lighting; a filtered water fill station; motion-sensor lighting; energy-star rated kitchen appliances; and low-flow plumbing fixtures.

“We’d also like to congratulate our branded FBOs who also committed to the NATA Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses: Carlsbad Jet Center, Duncan Aviation, Million Air Dallas and Sonoma Jet Center,” said Ammerman. “Avfuel is proud to align with these upstanding locations who are dedicated to sustainability; we’d encourage all aviation businesses to use NATA’s standard to discover how even small, incremental changes can make a big difference.”

Avfuel’s renewed certification is one more way the fuel supplier is living its commitment to sustainability. In addition to the efforts that led to its NATA designation, at the end of 2022 Avfuel also offset the carbon emissions it generated the year prior from scope 1 and 2 activities, fuel used in its corporate aircraft and diesel used in its owned transport trucks. For its customers, Avfuel offers an array of sustainable solutions, including sustainable aviation fuel, book and claim, and carbon offsetting. It also continues to collaborate with industry counterparts on unleaded avgas initiatives. Those interested in learning more are encouraged to visit Avfuel.com/Sustainability.
