Turnover can be one of the most challenging aspects of running any business, let alone a fueling business that requires a comprehensive understanding of operations for safety purposes. This is one of the greatest challenges we see FBOs face—losing an employee that just went through training. In order to handle turnover, FBOs need a training system that works for them.

Such training tools vary by FBO. Some FBOs have their own training system, while others use NATA Safety First. Avfuel created its own online training system that supplements hands-on training for new employees and recurrent training needs. The Avfuel Training System (ATS) contains three programs: rampside, front counter and customer service training. The ATS is cost-effective, charging the FBO only one subscription fee per year for every employee at its facility.

Avfuel’s rampside portion of the ATS educates employees on topics such as:

  • Fuel handling and fire safety
  • Aviation fuels and additives
  • Fuel system icing inhibitor (fsii)
  • Contaminants and fuel-testing methods
  • Procedures for receiving a load of aviation fuel
  • Aviation fueling components
  • Fuel storage systems
  • Mobile refueling equipment
  • Aircraft fueling and general operations
  • Paperwork
  • Tips for trainers
  • Aircraft marshalling
  • Towing
  • Radio etiquette
  • Record keeping
  • De-ice and anti-ice procedures

Designed with the FBO in mind to complement hands-on training, the rampside course offers a learn-at-your-own-pace format ideal for new employees and recurrent training programs with the use of video tutorials, proficiency tests and supplemental training guides.
